Cavani looking to leave PSG with Chelsea and Man Utd waiting

Edinson Cavani will look to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, the Daily Mail has reported, with Premier League pair Chelsea and Manchester United to fight it out for the Uruguay international’s signature.

Cavani moved to Ligue 1 last summer but his agent is said to be in London, leading to speculation the former Napoli forward is searching for a way out of the French capital.

Manchester United were said to have dispatched Sir Alex Ferguson to ask PSG Coach Laurent Blanc, who played under Ferguson at United, about Cavani’s situation.

But Chelsea are also in the market for a big-name striker with Cavani on a list alongside Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa and Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic.

Should Cavani leave PSG at the end of the season it is expected they would demand a fee in the region of what they paid to Napoli, some £54m. The price tag would be a record for both Chelsea and United.

Arsenal are thought to have an interest in Cavani’s situation but the Gunners would be deterred by the cost and a desire to give Olivier Giroud space to be the club’s main striker.

United would be willing to let Javier Hernandez leave while Chelsea will do likewise with Demba Ba and could also lose Samuel Eto’o, who joined on a one-year contract last summer.

Cavani spent three years at Napoli, scoring 104 goals in 138 games having originally moved to Italy with Palermo in 2006.
