Chelsea defender David Luiz has played down the significance of manager Jose Mourinho’s recent comments regarding title rivals Arsenal and their boss Arsene Wenger, insisting that they are ‘just part of football’, Sky
On Friday, during a press conference ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, Mourinho claimed that Wenger is a ‘specialist in failure’, having not won a trophy with the Gunners since 2004. The Frenchman responded on Sunday by saying that he was ‘embarrassed’ for Mourinho and Chelsea.
However, Luiz thinks that the war of words between the two managers is just part of the game. He said: “Football is like this, you cannot listen to everyone because if you listen to another coach, you don’t just have just one coach, you will have 10, 20, 100 coaches. Everyone wants to be part of our club and that’s natural.”
On the pressure of challenging for major silverware, the Brazilian international added: “I love pressure, you don’t need to take pressure of me because I love pressure and that’s why I play for a big club – that’s why I am here.
“We are not afraid, we are top of the league now, we are happy with this. We keep working hard every day. Of course I respect everyone, every team, but we need to do our job.”
