Newcastle new boy Luuk de Jong feels comfortable in his new surroundings, Sky
De Jong has made two appearances without finding the net since joining in January and is in line to feature at St James’ Park against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
The Netherlands international has been impressed by the Magpies support and wants to repay the fans’ faith with goals.
“I have a good feeling playing for the Newcastle fans,” he said. “When I came on against Sunderland, we were 2-0 down, of course, but the fans were still cheering me, and that gives me a good feeling.
“I just want to work hard for the team. I want to score goals and make some assists. That’s important for the team. I know they will support me if I work hard for the team.”
De Jong is however under no illusions as to the difficulty of Newcastle’s task against Spurs, who go into the game four places and 10 points better off than their hosts.
“Tottenham are a good team,” de Jong added. “But we play at home, so we’ve got a chance to beat them. It’s going to be really tough. They have some good players.”
