Drogba ‘delighted and nervous’ for Chelsea return, says Lampard

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has said that his former teammate Didier Drogba is feeling ‘delighted and nervous’ ahead of his return to Stamford Bridge, according to Sky Sports.

Drogba spent eight years at Chelsea between 2004 and 2012, winning the Champions League with his last kick of a ball for the Blues, but will now be making an emotional return against his old side.

The Ivorian will be making the reunion with Chelsea on Wednesday as he faces them with his current side Galatasaray looking for victory in the Champions League last-16 first leg tie.

Lampard has said that the 35-year-old should welcome the reception he will receive but understands why it will be a rollercoaster of emotion for the forward.

“I texted him after the draw because we still keep in touch,” said Lampard.

“He was delighted and nervous actually because he said it would be difficult for him to come here to Stamford Bridge. He still sees it as his home and his love.

“I said to him that once he gets back and has the reaction from the fans, he will absolutely love it, both games. I’m sure he will. The draw did have an air of inevitability. It is amazing how often these things happen in football.”

Despite Drogba moving on from London, Lampard has remained with the Blues, becoming the club’s top scorer but amid speculation over an exit he has given no indication that he is ready to leave.

“I’d love to win more trophies,” added the England midfielder.

“I have a fairly full set already, which is great, but the minute you lose that desire to step out and train hard, play the next game and be part of a winning team, you do suffer. I certainly haven’t lost that. It is just something inside you really.”
