Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has revealed his Poland teammate Wojciech Szczesny tried to convince him to join Arsenal, Sky
Lewandowski has agreed to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season but he told Polish newspaper Fakt that Szczesny did his best to get him to the Emirates Stadium.
“I can confirm that Wojciech Szczesny tried to convince me to join Arsenal,” Lewandowski said.
“We had several talks about this. It was him who did most of the talking, how the club looks inside, what Arsene Wenger thinks of me.
“When we trained before the Champions League games at [Arsenal’s training ground] Colney, there were important people from Arsenal at our sessions as well.”
It is claimed that Wenger did consider an approach for Lewandowski despite Bayern’s interest, although the Bundesliga giants were always in pole position to sign the 25-year-old, who has scored 91 goals in 163 games for Dortmund.
Lewandowski added that he didn’t find it difficult to cope with the speculation surrounding his future before his summer move to Bayern was confirmed.
“I just lived with it. Straight after signing the deal with Bayern, I released the statement where I committed myself to Borussia for the final six months,” he said.
“I’m not thinking about all this, and what will happen, it’s not the right time.”
