Liverpool’s Suarez dreams of Champions League

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has said playing in the Champions League would be a dream come true, ESPN has reported.

The Reds are currently fourth in the Premier League and well placed to return to the competition after being absent since 2009. Suarez played in the Champions League while at Ajax and wants to experience it again with his current employers.

“I want to be there with Liverpool. It’s an unbelievable competition. It’s where we want to be – playing against the top teams in Europe,” Suarez said.

“I watched the games on TV this week and when you hear that Champions League music that’s motivation in itself.

“[Steven Gerrard] has told me about Champions League nights at Anfield. He said when you have played Champions League football at Anfield you will never forget it. I want to try it for myself.

“When I arrived here I said it was my dream to play for Liverpool and play Champions League here. I know I can achieve my dreams here.”

Liverpool are five-time European Cup winners, claiming the trophy once in its current guise as the Champions League. Under Rafael Benitez, Liverpool came back from 3-0 down at half-time against Milan to draw 3-3 after extra time, eventually winning the penalty shootout.

Milan provided the opponents in Liverpool’s last Champions League final, in 2007, with the Italians this time triumphing 2-1.
