Low backs Ozil to rediscover form

Having suffered a week he would rather forget and a dramatic dip in form, Arsenal star Mezut Ozil has received unequivocal backing from his national team Coach, reports the Daily Mail.

With the German forward lacking confidence and involved with off pitch issues Germany boss Joachim Low has leapt to the faith of his playmaker, stating that the troubled player is in fact a ‘key player’.

Low told SportBild in an interview: “I’m counting on Mesut (for Brazil), because I know that he wants success in tournaments: he’s shown that in the past.

“If you’re playing at Real Madrid or Arsenal, you have to live with criticism when it isn’t going well. Mesut can do that very well indeed.”

Doubts are not only surrounding the players Arsenal performances but back in his home country there is a growing belief that he should be dropped from the country’s starting XI in favour of Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze.

However Low was quick to point out that Ozil was voted national team player of the year just last year and was insistent that he had played a decisive part in important qualifying games. The Germany coach went further and stated that he believed Ozil is more than capable of dealing with the pressures of the big stage.

The Arsenal forward’s presence in the national team may be required regardless of form as Germany boast a growing injury list – Mario Gomez, Sami Khedira, Ilkay Gundogan and Sven Bender are all out long term while Bastien Schweinsteiger is only just returning to fitness.
