Having lost to Barcelona on Tuesday, Manchester City must switch their mind back to the Premier League on Saturday as they play Stoke City.
Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to play David Silva in behind lone striker Alvaro Negredo on Tuesday did not have the desired impact, as Barcelona went on take a commanding first leg lead. That result meant that Man City’s poor recent form continued, and it was the third time in four games that they had failed to score. Without a league win since the end of January, the hosts will be going all out for victory here.
Stoke have lost 3-0 in each of their last three visits to the Etihad Stadium, but may believe that this is a good time to play Man City. They come into it on a three match unbeaten run; with draws against Southampton and Swansea following their famous win over Manchester United. Manager Mark Hughes will also not want to lose heavily on his return to his former club.
Matija Nastasic is unlikely to be fit for Man City, while Sergio Aguero, still injured, faces a race against time to be fit for the Capital One Cup final.
The visitors are unable to call upon John Guidetti against his parent club. He misses out along with Oussama Assaidi and Robert Huth, although the German is back in training.
