Mourinho open to Chelsea move for Cavani

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said the club could make a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani at the end of the season, ESPN has reported.

Speaking to French television Mourinho ruled out an approach for PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic despite their successful time together at Inter, saying such a transfer was ‘impossible’. A move for Cavani, however, was not dismissed.

“PSG paid a lot of money for him. His contract is also incredible,” Mourinho said of Cavani, who cost £54m and is said to be on a salary of £8.3m a year. “Maybe it’s not impossible like Zlatan, because I think that Zlatan is more important to the structure of the club. But I think that it’s also difficult.”

Regarding Ibrahimovic, Mourinho added: “He’s happy in Paris. I know that because we’re friends and we’re in contact. I don’t think PSG, with their economic potential, will ever want to open the door for him. It’s mission impossible.”

Mourinho added that he was never approached to take over at PSG last summer after leaving Real Madrid, and that there is no chance Eden Hazard will be allowed to leave Chelsea for a move to the French capital.

Cavani, 27, has scored 17 goals in 26 games for PSG this season, having moved to France from Napoli, where he netted 95 times in 127 appearances.
