Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri believes the Capital One Cup final could be a pivotal moment in the season for the Premier League title challengers, Sky
Manuel Pellegrini’s side face Sunderland at Wembley on Sunday and Nasri, who reached the final with Arsenal in 2011, recalled his involvement with the Gunners in an attempt to express the importance of the game.
“I have the experience of losing the Carling Cup with Arsenal,” said Nasri. “After that we only won two games in the league, so a win would be really important for us and the confidence.
“I don’t have good memories (of Wembley) with clubs. I have lost a final there with Arsenal and with Manchester City, but I won there with the national team against England. I hope it is going to be the same kind of game.”
Arsenal were beaten in 2011 by Birmingham City, with Obafemi Martins scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute following a defensive mix-up. Birmingham, under Alex McLeish, were subsequently relegated that season.
