Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that captain Fabricio Coloccini could make his return from injury for Sunday’s game against Aston Villa,
Coloccini has not featured for the Magpies since suffering a knee injury during the New Year’s Day defeat at West Bromwich Albion, and the club’s form has suffered as a result, only winning one Premier League game since – away to West Ham United.
The Argentine, who has been a key player for Newcastle since arriving back in the summer of 2008, could resume his duties in central defence against the Villans, and Pardew said: “Colo’s worked hard, and he’s looking better. He was in all weekend, so he’s had four or five days.”
Another of Newcastle’s key players, Cheick Tiote, could also make a welcome return on Sunday having missed the last two games against Chelsea and Tottenham with a hamstring problem. The Ivorian’s comeback could be particularly crucial with Yohan Cabaye having left the club for Paris St. Germain during the January transfer window.
