Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has rubbished claims that right-back Mathieu Debuchy could be looking to leave St. James’ Park in the summer, Sky
On Thursday, reports surfaced that Debuchy was considering leaving the Magpies, whom he joined from Lille in his native France in January 2013, when he was asked about the possibility of following former Newcastle teammate Yohan Cabaye to Paris St. Germain.
However, Pardew believes that Debuchy may have been misquoted, and that the player is fully committed to Newcastle. He said: “I don’t think the quotes are accurate, something can get lost in translation.
“I have spoken to him, he is very happy at the club, he signed for four years and he is an important player who has done well and improved as he has gone along. I have no worries about those comments. You do never know in football. We are looking to change and strengthen in a lot of position next year but that won’t be one of them.”
Since arriving Debuchy has been very much a regular in the right-back position, taking from Danny Simpson, who left for Queens Park Rangers last summer. This season, he has made 25 appearances, scoring once.
