Schalke want Arsenal target Draxler for two more years

Julian Draxler has been told he would be best served staying at Schalke for another two years, rather than make a summer move to Arsenal, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Draxler was close to moving to the Gunners in January for £36m and has a clause in his contract would allow a summer move for slightly more.

But Schalke’s chairman, Clemens Tonnies, has said it would benefit the midfielder more to remain with his current club for a while longer, although Tonnies acknowledges Schalke won’t be able to retain Draxler for long.

“It would do Draxler good to spend another year or two with us. But we know we’re not going to be able to keep a super-talented player like Julian at Schalke forever

“If another club comes in for him, then we cannot block them. That would be unfair. I don’t think he will join Bayern Munich though.”

Draxler’s Schalke contract runs until 2018 and despite his young age, the Germany international has racked up his fair share of experience.

He played his 100th Bundesliga game last year when only 19, the youngest player in the division’s history to reach the milestone.

Draxler has also played 10 times for the senior Germany side since making his debut against Switzerland in a pre-Euro 2012 friendly.
