Garry Monk takes charge of a Swansea City side looking to avenge the defeat they suffered in the Premier League’s first ever South Wales derby back in November.
To many, the timing of Michael Laudrup’s dismissal was somewhat surprising, particularly as it came just four days ahead of this local grudge match. However, it must be said that Swansea have not looked anything like the side of last season, where they had a clinical edge to provide an end product to their possession football. And with just two points separating the Swans from the bottom three, Monk needs to make an instant impact.
Cardiff will sense an opportunity to claim a famous double over their near neighbours, and should they manage to do so, it could be enough to lift them out of the drop zone, having moved off the bottom following victory over Norwich City in their previous game.
It was not the best performance, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to take a leaf out of Jose Mourinho’s book and send Wilfried Zaha on in the first half swung the game in his side’s favour.
Michel Vorm is unlikely to return in goal for Swansea, who are hoping that Jonjo Shelvey and Jose Canas can return, as well as last season’s top scorer, Miguel Michu.
Defender Mark Hudson is likely to miss out for Cardiff, as is defender Andrew Taylor, form whom youngster Declkan Johnn has been deputising.
