This weekend, there are only eight Premier League fixtures due to the Capital One Cup final, but as always there will be no shortage of entertainment, and these players should be right in the thick of the action:
Hailed as special by manager Alan Pardew, Remy has been in top form for much of the season for a Newcastle United side that is set for a respectable top half finish. Last time out, he was on hand to score a dramatic winner against Aston Villa, but Saturday’s game against Hull City could be a real test for the Frenchman, as the Tigers do not concede many goals, particularly at home.
Since being handed his debut by Tim Sherwood at Southampton back in December, the youngster Bentaleb has been almost a permanent fixture in the Tottenham midfield, making the step-up to the Premier League look exceptionally easy. He is in line to start again against Cardiff City on Sunday, and another good performance would only serve to enhance his growing reputation.
Two more goals against Swansea City took Sturridge’s tally to a hugely impressive 18 in the Premier League this season, ensuring that so far in World Cup year, no English player is in better form than the former Chelsea man. Moreover, should he score against Southampton on Saturday, it would see him break a Premier League record for scoring in consecutive matches.
When he left Tottenham last summer in favour of newly promoted Cardiff City, it was met with surprise among most observers, as Caulker looked to have many years ahead of him at White Hart Lane. He returns there on Sunday with his side seriously threatened by relegation, but still very much part of Roy Hodgson’s plans, having been named in his preliminary 30-man England squad for the friendly against Denmark.
West Ham have won each of their previous three Premier League games without Carroll, after his sending off against Swansea City at the beginning of February. However, they will be a lot stronger with him in the side, and as he resumes his excellent partnership with the in-form Kevin Nolan, he is set for an interesting reception at Goodison Park as a former Liverpool player.
