Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has said that he believes there are up to 10 teams that could win the Champions League this season, according to Sky
The Red Devils are set to face Olympiakos in their last-16 first leg match on Tuesday and will be looking for a strong run in the competition.
Van Persie’s side have struggled so far in the Premier League this season and could miss out on a Champions League spot for the next season, as they currently sit 11 points off the last qualifying place.
“If you play well and are lucky you have a good chance of going far,” said van Persie.
“Even then I think there are eight to 10 teams who could win it this year.”
United have met Olympiakos four times previously in the competition and hold a 100% winning record over them.
Despite being favourites to progress over the Greeks in the competition, veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs believes that his side should be wary of their opponents.
“The atmosphere in the stadium is going to be electric,” said the Welshman.
“It’s always great to play in a stadium with a good atmosphere, we know the Olympiakos fans are going to be cheering their team on, we also have a good set of travelling fans which will make for a great atmosphere.
“Once you get to this stage of the competition you know that there are not going to be any easy matches.”
