Felix Magath’s first game in charge of Fulham is a huge one, as they travel to the Hawthorns to take on fellow strugglers West Bromwich Albion.
The hosts will have buoyed by securing a late draw against leaders Chelsea last time out, and it was a match that continued what has become a recurring theme under Pepe Mel. In each game the Spaniard has taken charge of the Baggies, the second half performance has been much better than the first, so he will be hoping that his side – above the bottom three only on goal difference – can produce the goods for a full 90 minutes.
Since taking charge on February 14, Magath has wasted little time in declaring his belief that Fulham would stay up, and criticising the methods of his predecessor, Rene Meulensteen. The German arrives with a good track record, but he will need to instigate better performances into a side which has underperformed all season, but he may see the games against Manchester United and Liverpool as something to build on.
For West Brom, who have a poor record against Fulham over recent seasons, Claudio Yacob has been ruled out, and Goran Popov is likely to still be absent with a neck problem. But crucially, captain Jonas Olsson is set to return after injury.
Maarten Stekelenburg should be able to start in goal for Fulham despite picking up an eye injury against Liverpool. Fernando Amorebieta is definitely out.
