Willian: Premier League has made me a better player

Chelsea midfielder Willian feels he has become a better player after only half a season in the Premier League, Sky Sports has reported.

Willian moved to Stamford Bridge from Anzhi Makhachkala in the summer transfer window, turning down interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool to join Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Willian admitted it took him time to settle in to English football but feels that now he has, he is showing his true quality.

“English football is very different from anything I’ve experienced before. It’s really competitive, and really fast,” Willian said.

“I used to watch it on TV but you just don’t have the same idea as when you actually play in it. I can feel the difference now. In my opinion it is the best league in the world.

“My aim is to keep improving every game I play so I can develop my game further here,” the Brazil international continued.

“I feel really happy to have been able to start so many games and to earn my place in the team, and to find my place with the other players, the manager and the technical coaches. I will try to work even harder so I can continue enjoying it as much as I have been doing.”

Willian has made 28 appearances for Chelsea, scoring twice, but had to wait until mid-September for his first game in the colours of his new club. He has however been a regular in the latter half of the season, helping Chelsea to a one-point lead at the top of the table.
