Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi has stated that his target for the season is to secure European football for his club, according to Sky
With just nine games remaining Newcastle need points quickly and the 32-year-old hopes his side can make a final push up the table.
The Magpies currently sit in ninth place, eight points away from the European spots for next season’s competition.
“Hopefully I can help us in these last nine games and play a part in the run in and see if I can get up as high as I can and hopefully finish in a European position, which is our ambition as a club,” said Ameobi.
“We still believe we can do it. As players you look and see there is still 27 points to play for. That’s a lot of points and way more than enough to get us into Europe.”
Newcastle lost their last Premier League game 1-0 to bottom-of-the-table Fulham and will now be hoping to turn things around heading into their next few matches.
The final few clashes look to be vital for the Tyneside club’s European dreams as they face fellow hopefuls Everton, Manchester United and Southampton in the run to the end of the season.
“We’ve got Everton, Man United and Southampton; whatever happens in those games will probably determine how well we do, but every game is huge now,” Ameobi added.
“The last 10 games of the season your fortunes rest on, and it’s important you continue to carry the momentum we’ve had throughout the season.”
