Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that last season’s victory at the Allianz Arena can help them when they return on Tuesday evening for the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, BBC
Last season, the Gunners almost overturned a 3-1 first leg deficit, but were eliminated on the away goals rule. This time around, they trail 2-0 after the home leg due to goals from Toni Kroos and Tomas Muller, but Wenger believes that their efforts in 2013 could help them go one better this time around against the European champions.
The Frenchman said: “We know we can do it, because we have already done it. My team has quality and ambition. History is important in our belief.”
Bayern come into this 20 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga having scored 72 goals. They have not lost in the league for 49 matches, and have a fully-fit squad while Arsenal have several key injury absentees. However, an unworried Wenger added: “It is a possible task, that is the most important thing. The way to win is to produce a top-level performance and turn up with quality and belief.”
