Chelsea will be aiming to re-open a seven point lead over Arsenal by defeating the Gunners on Saturday in a massive game in the context of the title race.
After losing at Aston Villa on a day where nothing went right for them, Chelsea watched on as Arsenal and Liverpool both closed the gap to four points with wins on Saturday. Those results, coupled with Manchester City’s win over Hull City, have put the Blues’ chances of winning the league under question, although they did manage to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League by comfortably beating Galatasaray on Tuesday.
Should Arsenal take the three points here, it would represent a huge psychological boost. Not only would it end Chelsea unbeaten home record in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho, but it would prove that they are capable of winning against their direct rivals. Manager Arsene Wenger would love to celebrate his 1,000th match in charge with a victory, to follow on from a solid display at rivals Tottenham last time out.
The hosts will be without both Ramires and Willian after their red cards at Villa Park, but they do welcome back Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah, who were ineligible to face Galatasaray.
Arsenal are still without Abou Diaby, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, but Nicklas Bendtner could play a part after recovering from illness.
