Manchester City have appointed former Liverpool youth coach Rodolfo Borrell to the position of global technical director, ESPN
Borrell was appointed at Anfield by Rafael Benitez in 2009, having previously worked as a youth coach at Barcelona. He left Merseyside in November 2013 when the Reds re-organised their youth structure, with academy director Frank McParland also departing.
City have a number of former Barcelona employees within their management hierarchy and Borrell has been reunited with Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain, respectively the chief executive and director of football at the Etihad Stadium.
Borrell was at Barcelona for some 13 years and was part of the set-up that oversaw the likes of Lionel Messi, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Cesc Fabregas and Victor Valdes progress through the ranks and into the first team.
While at Liverpool Borrell was involved in the recruitment of Raheem Sterling, who was signed from Queens Park Rangers, and the development of Jon Flanagan, who has broken into the first team under Brendan Rodgers this season.
