Johnson: Liverpool the neutrals’ favourites

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes neutrals want the Reds to win the Premier League title this season, ESPN has reported.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are second in the table behind Chelsea, trailing the Blues by four points with Chelsea still to come to Anfield this season.

Johnson, a former Chelsea player, reckons a Liverpool victory would be welcomed by impartial observers to make the title race more interesting, as well as believing Liverpool’s style of play has won them a lot of support.

“Just to spice things up the neutrals would want to see us win it,” Johnson said. “Nobody wants the same teams to be winning it over and over again. I guess the neutrals will be packing a punch for us. We must be good to watch.

“People watch football to enjoy themselves, to see goals and exciting football. We provide that. I think people will be rooting for us as we will be something different.”

Liverpool have been crowned champions 18 times but not since 1990. Manchester United are the most successful English team in domestic football, winning 20 titles. Chelsea have won the title four times.
