Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva hopes to return to action this weekend, ESPN
Lucas has been on the sidelines since injuring his medial knee ligament against Aston Villa on January 18. But the Brazil international played the full 90 minutes of Liverpool Under-21s win over their West Ham counterparts at the end of last week and now wants to return for the seniors.
“It was really good for me to get going again and try to improve my fitness,” Lucas told the official Liverpool website.
“I was lucky that I wasn’t out for a long time and I’m now looking forward to first-team action. I hope I’ll be able to help the team again for the next 10 games because we know how important they are.
“I felt really good after the game and I’m looking forward to the next two months.”
Lucas added that he is aiming to be fit for Brazil for the World Cup this summer, having returned to Phil Scolari’s squad for the final friendlies of 2013.
“The competition for places in the Brazil squad is so big, so that’s why I’m really confident that if I have a good two months ahead then I will have a chance to play at the World Cup,” Lucas said. “That would be like a dream for me – playing for my country in Brazil.”
