Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes Arsenal deserve credit for sticking by his Gunners counterpart Arsene Wenger despite the ‘bad moments,’ Sky
Wenger will take charge of his 1,000th game as Arsenal boss on Saturday, against Mourinho’s Chelsea, and the Portuguese was asked for his thoughts on the landmark – one only three other managers have achieved with one club – Sir Matt Busby, Dario Gradi and Sir Alex Ferguson.
“I admire him and I admire Arsenal, because it’s not possible to have 1,000 matches unless the club is also a fantastic club in the way they support the manager,” Mourinho said. “Especially in the bad moments and especially when the bad moments were quite a lot.
“The tribute is to say that I believe that, any one of us, we would love to have the same privilege with our clubs,” the former Real Madrid Coach added.
Wenger and Mourinho have regularly engaged in verbal sparring matches, with this season Mourinho branding Wenger as a ‘specialist in failure’ for not having won a trophy since 2005. Wenger had said that any manager who denies their side is in the title race is doing so out of fear of losing.
