David Moyes believes he has the support of the majority of Manchester United fans despite plans to fly an anti-Moyes banner over Old Trafford this weekend, Sky
United play Aston Villa at home on Saturday but it has been revealed that a group of supporters have hired a light aircraft to fly a banner reading: “Wrong one – Moyes out” over the stadium during the match.
The message on the banner refers to the banner inside Old Trafford that describes Moyes as the chosen one after he was hand-picked by Sir Alex Ferguson to replace him upon his retirement last summer.
Moyes said that the protestors are entitled to voice their opinions however they want and added that most fans of the club are in his corner. “Everywhere I go I get great support from Manchester United supporters,” Moyes said.
“I was at a dinner last night for Darren Fletcher and there were Manchester United supporters who came up to me and said ‘come on, keep going, we understand exactly the situation the club is in and team is in’.
“They were really supportive and every time I have been to Old Trafford they have been great. I am seeing a lot different from what a lot of people are saying but I understand that results matter.
“I have heard of [the aircraft and the banner] and what they are saying about it, but this is something which is a long journey here, this is only the start of the journey,” Moyes added. “People can do that. They are entitled to do that.”
