Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has backed teammate Mesut Ozil to rediscover his best form after a disappointing few weeks, the Daily
Ozil, signed for a club record £42.1m back in August, has struggled for form in recent games, leading to manager Arsene Wenger to leave him out of the recent win over Sunderland, and then only name him among the substitutes for Saturday’s reverse at Stoke City.
The former Real Madrid man is now training alongside Podolski and the rest of the German national team ahead of their friendly on Wednesday evening with Chile, in which he is expected to play a part.
Despite recent criticism of his performances, Podolski believes that Ozil has what it takes to bounce back. The 28-year-old said: “Criticism is part and parcel of football. I think Mesut is a fantastic player. He’s going to give a lot of joy to Arsenal and to Germany.
“He’s still young and a good friend of mine. He’s played many great games and he will play many more. I think some of the criticism was a bit exaggerated and unfair at times.”
