Queens Park Rangers could approach Gianfranco Zola to replace Harry Redknapp at the end of the season, the
It’s been suggested Redknapp could leave Loftus Road at the end of the season despite having a year remaining on his contract. But QPR’s financial problems – with losses of more than £65m – could cause swingeing cuts at the club as well as a possible points penalty or transfer embargo in line with the rules of the Championship.
Redknapp could also require a second knee operation after going under the knife prior to the start of the current campaign and should QPR fail to return to the Premier League for next season, Redknapp could be offered a mutual consent departure.
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes previously attempted to take over West Ham when Zola was the manager at Upton Park and would attempt to hire the ex-Watford boss should Redknapp leave.
Fernandes wants Zola’s preferred style of play and experience of blooding young players at both West Ham and Watford, the newspaper adds.
QPR are currently fourth in the Championship, 17 points adrift of leaders Leicester City and 10 short of Burnley, who hold the final automatic promotion place. QPR have won only once in their last six games and were beaten by Brighton on Tuesday.
