Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is in talks over a new contract at the St. Mary’s Stadium, with the club looking to put an end to speculation about his future, according to the Daily
Owner Katharina Liebherr is hoping to ensure stability by keeping Pochettino at Southampton, with the Argentine’s future having been in doubt since January, when executive chairman Nicola Cortese resigned.
Following Cortese’s decision to leave, Pochettino said that he would stay until the end of the season, but did not give any assurances for the long-term.
Pochettino has been linked with other managerial posts in recent months, most significantly at Tottenham, where is remains unknown whether Tim Sherwood will continue in the role of Head Coach beyond this season.
The Saints are hoping to tempt the 42-year-old to stay by offering him an improved salary, as well as assuring him that the core the current squad will still be at the club next season, although players such as Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana have been linked with moves elsewhere.
Since taking charge at Southampton in January 2013, Pochettino has established them as a Premier League club, guiding them to a 14th placed finish last season. This time around, the lie ninth, thanks largely to an impressive start to the campaign.
