Struggling Sunderland have the chance move to within just a point of safety on Monday evening as they take on West Ham United.
A lack of goals has been the big problem for Gustavo Poyet in recent weeks. Should Sunderland be relegated, the Uruguayan may very well look back at the defeat at Norwich City or the frustrating goalless draw against Crystal Palace, two very big games. There will have been much encouragement from the way they ended the match at title-chasing Liverpool, but they still lost, and points are badly needed.
For West Ham, the job is almost done thanks to a midweek victory over Hull City. However, that was not enough to satisfy some sections of the Upton Park crowd, who were disappointed at the way their side struggled against a team that was reduced to 10 men. That left manager Sam Allardyce frustrated afterwards, but with the knowledge that he is likely to preserve their Premier League status.
Sunderland welcome Fabio Borini back to their attack after he was ineligible to face his parent club on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Kieren Westwood and striker Steven Fletcher are still missing.
Matt Jarvis returns for a West Ham side that is likely to be without James Collins. Either Winston Reid or Roger Johnson will come in for the Welshman.
