Ben Arfa used his Instagram account to disclose that he will not be among the squad for the game at the Emirates Stadium, writing: ‘The manager didn’t pick me in the group to go to London for the game against Arsenal. It is not a problem. I hope my team-mates will win at the Emirates Stadium to make our fans happy.’
The France international has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Newcastle team during this season, and indeed through much of his time with the club. Often used as an impact substitute, he has made 30 appearances in all competitions in 2013-14, scoring three goals.
In recent weeks, it has seemed likely that Ben Arfa’s four-year stay at Newcastle could come to end, with rumours linking him with a return to France. He is said to have been a disruptive influence behind the scenes, with the player reported to be involved in dressing room clashes following defeats to Manchester United and Stoke City.
