Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that his old team mate Steven Gerrard is the greatest player to never win the Premier League title, the Daily
Skipper Gerrard will lead the team out on Sunday against West Ham knowing three points will increase the club’s chances of unlikely title glory this season.
A victory at Upton Park sees the Reds claim top spot again from Chelsea, and former player Carragher believes that if Brendan Rodgers guides the club to League success, it will mean more to Gerrard than if he had won it six times with any other club.
Carragher said of pal Gerrard: “Steven Gerrard is probably the greatest player not to have won the Premier League title. There are lots of players down the years who have won it who couldn’t lace his boots. He’s been loyal to Liverpool. He could have moved two or three times, had more honours and maybe even won the title. Winning it at Liverpool would be like winning it five or six times at another club though. That’s how much it means to him.”
And Carragher also believes that is the club were to win the title, it would rank as one of the greatest triumphs in their history.
Liverpool were large outsiders for the title race at the start of the season following a seventh place finish last term, but have surprised many this season and with just five games to go have every chance of league success.
