Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes Chelsea’s European pedigree makes them favourites for the Champions League tie against the Sweden international’s Paris Saint-Germain, ESPN
Ibrahimovic warned, however, that Chelsea are facing a PSG side much-improved from this point 12 months ago, when they were eliminated from the competition at this same quarter-final stage by Barcelona.
“There’s a big difference between our team from last year,” Ibrahimovic said. “It’s the second year we’re playing together. We’re a lot better now. We know each other better. There are new players who have arrived, but some of them have taken on a lot of responsibility. Collectively, we are better.
“Last year, everything was new, we played more individually. Now we know each other a lot better. We’re better as a team.”
Ibrahimovic moved to PSG from Milan in 2012 and has to date scored 75 goals in 88 games for the Ligue 1 champions. He added that the Premier League club’s extra experience in continental competition means PSG are the underdogs.
“We’re playing against a fantastic team,” Ibrahimovic added. “We have nothing to lose and we are quite new to this competition while Chelsea have been there for the last 10 years.
“They have won the Europa League and the Champions League. They’re a very good team. Chelsea are a big club. It’ll be very exciting. I think Chelsea are the super favourites.”
