Howard: Everton fans wrong to boo Moyes

Everton Goalkeeper Tim Howard has said that Everton fans were wrong to boo Manchester United manager David Moyes on his return to Goodison Park, according to BBC Sport.

David Moyes made his first visit to Goodison Park on Sunday since leaving the club in favour of Manchester last summer.

Despite a successful 11-year stint with the club, Moyes was faced by a reception of boos throughout the 2-0 loss to his former side.

“We have brilliant fans, but that was unfair on him,” said the American.

“He was the second coming, the messiah 12 months ago, and I don’t think as Evertonians we should forget that.”

As Everton boss, the Scot successfully and consistently finished in the top of half of the table and looked close to making a top four push.

However recent attempts by Moyes to sign former players Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini for a cut price, was badly received by the club’s fans.

Moyes succeeded in purchasing the Belgian last summer but has had several bids for Baines rejected, including an original joint bid of £28 million for both the players.

“I love David Moyes. I think he is a brilliant manager,” said the 35-year-old.

“He was (a brilliant manager) here for us and I will be forever grateful to him.”
