Man City boss Pellegrini pleased after win

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini declared himself happy with his side’s performance as they comfortably beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 on Monday evening, Sky Sports has reported.

The title hopefuls were 2-0 up inside 10 minutes thanks to Pablo Zabaleta’s diving header and Sergio Aguero’s low shot into the corner. The Baggies, who looked dangerous on the break, pulled one back with a superb goal from Graham Dorrans, but Martin Demichelis made the game safe for Man City when he turned home a corner nine minutes before half time.

An uneventful second half was negotiated by Man City for a result which moves them to within four points of leaders Liverpool, with a game in hand, and Pellegrini praised his team’s performance. He said: “We made a very good first 45-minutes.

“We scored three-goals and had more chances to score – maybe the goal made us a bit nervous, and the second-half we were not so clear with the ball but we kept the result and that was the important thing.”

On the title race, the Chilean added: “It [title race] is the same way before we played it, but we have three points more – if Liverpool win their three games and 14 games in a row they are champions, but our job is to win our games and Liverpool will feel some pressure. It is always difficult to finish the season and we just have to do our work.”
