David Moyes has taken steps to finalise Manchester United’s summer transfer targets, ESPN
Moyes was at Porto’s Portugal Cup semi-final against Benfica in Lisbon with Porto pair Eliaquim Mangala and Jackson Martinez, a centre-back and a striker respectively, believed to be the focus of his attention, along with Benfica left-back Guilherme Siqueira, who is on-loan from La Liga side Granada.
United are understood to be willing to sanction a £200m transfer kitty in an attempt to restore United to the top of the table and the Champions League. United are currently seventh in the table, 10 points adrift of a top four place with four games to play.
Nemanja Vidic is already confirmed as leaving Old Trafford, bound for Serie A side Inter, while fellow veterans Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra are approaching the end of their current contracts. Luke Shaw is an option to replace Evra, with a price tag of £30m on the Southampton youngster.
Midfield is also an area Moyes is keen to strengthen and Portugal could be his calling station again, with Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho a possible target. A £37m buyout clause could prove a stumbling block, however.
Moyes returns to former club Everton for the first time on Sunday, the Toffees in fifth place, nine points better off than the Scot’s current employers.
