The pressure is on Man City, Rodgers insists

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that there is more pressure on Manchester City than on his side in the Premier League title race, BBC Sport has reported.

The two sides meet on Sunday in a massive fixture with Liverpool currently top of the Premier League with 74 points, four ahead of Man City in third, who have two games in hand due to their cup commitments earlier in the campaign.

Man City have been many people’s title favourites throughout the season with Liverpool largely seen as outsiders, and Rodgers believes all the pressure is on Manuel Pellegrini’s men. He said: “They have invested to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

“They will be looking to get a result next Sunday. For us, we are just going to enjoy it. I think there are a number of great teams in this league. Manchester City have got some wonderful players. Jose Mourinho and his Chelsea side are always going to be there.

“We’re just embracing whatever pressure there is supposed to be. There are no nerves for us. We know it’s a big game. But in the big games this season, we’ve tended to do well.”

The Northern Irishman was speaking after Liverpool had reclaimed their place at the top of the Premier League with a win away to West Ham United on Sunday. Two Steven Gerrard penalties were enough for a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
