Louis van Gaal is said to be hopeful of being appointed Manchester United manager this week, the
Van Gaal is the favourite to replace David Moyes, who was sacked last week, and has already announced he will leave his post as Netherlands Coach after the summer tournament. The Netherlands’ World Cup preparations begin on May 7.
Ryan Giggs, player-coach under Moyes, has taken interim control of first team affairs and could become van Gaal’s assistant manager, with former Ajax, Barcelona and Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert likely to be part of van Gaal’s backroom team.
Giggs has said that his future as a player isn’t clear either, and confirmed he would discuss his next step once the season is over. “I think that’s another conversation as well,” the former Wales international said. “I don’t know what I’m doing about playing, I don’t know what’s going to happen, so again it’s something that I’ll think about and decide with the appropriate people after the season.”
United beat Norwich City 4-0 on Saturday in Giggs’ first game in charge. Giggs is United’s record appearance holder, playing 962 times for United since his debut in the 1990-91 season.
