West Bromwich Albion have played down claims that a brawl took place in the dressing room after they drew 3-3 with Cardiff City on Saturday, BBC
An article in the Daily Mirror suggested that Albion striker Saido Berahino suffered a cut to his head in the alleged fracas, with it being the England U-21 international’s mistake that had led to Cardiff’s late equaliser.
Berahino’s misplaced pass allowed the Bluebirds to break forward, with Mats Moller Daehli scoring the goal to give his side a share of the spoils and prevent the hosts from opening up a six-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.
Reports quickly surfaced of a dressing room bust-up, but on Tuesday a club spokesman played down the severity of the argument. He said: “Tensions were understandably running high in the dressing room, but the incident has been sensationalised in the media.
“What happened is not uncommon in a dressing room and shows that the players care. The players involved have apologised. The club has drawn a line under the matter and is now fully focusing on Saturday’s important game at Norwich.”
