Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Darren Anderton has called on the club to give new Coach Mauricio Pochettino time to prove himself, Sky
Pochettino was this week confirmed as successor to Tim Sherwood, resigning from Southampton after a year-and-a-half with the Saints. Sherwood was appointed in December after Andre Villas-Boas was sacked, the former midfielder’s services dispensed with after Spurs finished sixth in the Premier League.
“I think he’ll be great at some point,” Anderton said of Pochettino. “He’s a very good manager but they’ve got to give him time; give him a chance to bring in the players he wants.
“The fans have been starved of success for too long but they have got to be patient. It’s happened far too many times in recent years. We haven’t had success off the back of that. They’ve just got to give him time. There are exciting times ahead.”
Southampton under Pochettino finished the season in eighth place, 13 points behind the Argentine’s new employers. Spurs beat Southampton 3-2 at White Hart Lane in March, having won by the same score at St. Mary’s in December.
