Aston Villa target Holby and Lescott

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has made Tottenham attacking midfielder Lewis Holtby and Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott his two top transfer targets for this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Scot is planning for his summer in the transfer market despite his future at the club looking uncertain at present, with sections of the Aston Villa support in recent weeks aiming some of their discontent towards Lambert, with his side still not safe from relegation to the Championship.

Irrespective of Villa’s Premier League fate, there are still several questions to be answered over whether owner Randy Lerner will decide to sell the club over the close-season, but Lambert has made Holtby his top priority signing and hopes to be successful with a bid of £6m.

The German has found opportunities limited at Tottenham since joining in January 2013, and joined Fulham on loan midway through this season in order to gain more playing time. He has made an impression at Craven Cottage, scoring once in 12 appearances.

Lescott will definitely be moving on this summer, having already accepted that he will leave Man City when his contract expires at the end of June. Several clubs are thought to be in the race to sign the former England international, but his wages could prove a stumbling block to Villa, with Lerner unwilling to spend heavily.
