Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has emerged at the top of Barcelona’s transfer targets when the summer window opens, according to Football
Barcelona have endured a tough season under Tata Martino and look set for major upheaval in the summer as their campaign could well end without a single trophy won.
Reports suggest that club officials met with Celta Vigo manager Luis Enrique – who now looks likely to replace Martino, and have also drawn up a list of transfer targets which Kompany tops.
The Belgian centre half signed for Manchester City for an undisclosed fee back in 2008 and was regarded as one of the brightest talents in Europe.
He has gone on to become one of the highest rated defenders currently in the game, but has been hampered by injury this season that has limited him to just 19 appearances in all competitions.
It is unlikely that City will want to sell one of their most influential players at the club but Barcelona hope that their current predicament with UEFA may well play into their hands in drawing them into negotiations – City are currently facing a £50m for breach of Financial Fair Play rules.
Kompany has made 226 appearances for the club to date, contributing 10 goals – his most important against Manchester United that handed them a 1-0 win and control of the title race, which they ultimately won.
