Cardiff City take on Chelsea in their final top-flight game before they return to the Championship for next season.
It will never be known whether Malky Mackay would have kept Cardiff in the Premier League, but the decision to sack the Scot has played some part in their relegation, which was finally sealed with a defeat at Newcastle United last time out. Mackay’s replacement, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has brought great enthusiasm for the role, but the overall points return has been disappointing, but he will try and lead them straight back in 2014-15.
Victory for Manchester City over Aston Villa on Wednesday confirmed that Jose Mourinho will end his first season back in charge of Chelsea without a trophy. He will be disappointed, but optimistic ahead of next season, which comes after a summer where heavy investment is expected, with Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa high on their wish list. Seemingly headed for third place, the foundations have been laid for an improvement next time around.
Mark Hudson and Craig Noone are definitely out for Cardiff, who also have doubts over Kevin Theophile-Catherine, Mats Moller-Daehli and Gary Medel.
With little to play for, Chelsea could make changes with Marco van Ginkel in line for his first start for the club. Mark Schwarzer will continue in goal.
