Cattermole urges Sunderland to continue fine form against Man Utd

Lee Cattermole has called on his Sunderland team-mates to continue their great recent form and grab another surprise win when they take on Man Utd at Old Trafford on Saturday, reports Sky Sports.

Just a month ahead of the clash Sunderland looked resigned to relegation from the Premier League, sitting bottom of the table. They then managed to draw at the home of Man City – conceding a late equaliser – and beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a result that ended Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten record at home in the Premier League across two spells.

They then went on to beat fellow strugglers Cardiff 4-0 at the Stadium of Light, and that win also saw Sunderland climb out of the bottom three for the first time since early February, in a position they occupy only owing to a better goal difference tally. They have two home games following the United fixture, and so are hoping that they will be able to get enough out of their remaining games to secure top flight safety, but Cattermole wants the Black Cats to continue their good run at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, the former Middlesbrough man said: “We’ve been to Manchester City and done well and Chelsea and done well, so why not at United too?

“To be honest, going to Old Trafford is not something I think we’re worrying about – we’re just concentrating on getting out there and doing our best. It was strange after the Cardiff City game that there was no massive celebrations in our dressing room afterwards – we were all quite quiet and I think that was because we’re so focused at the moment on what we’re trying to achieve.

“Yes, we had a great win over Cardiff, but that’s just one step and we’ve got more to do. Now we want to go on and try to win the games against Man United, West Brom and Swansea.”
