While Manchester United interest in German midfielder Toni Kroos has cooled it appears Chelsea could be lining up a shock move to still bring him to the Premier League if he becomes a free agent when his contract expires next year, the
After new United manager Louis Van Gaal seemingly ended his interest in bringing the 24-year-old Bayern Munich star to Old Trafford Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is said to be eyeing up a move for the midfielder who has entered the final 12 months of his current deal at the Allianz Arena.
Kroos is currently in a stand off with Bayern officials as the player continues to dig his heels in over his current wages of £60,000 a week – he wants to be amongst the highest earners of the club by more than doubling them to a whopping £150,000.
The club will have Robert Lewandowski joining them after the World cup and are adamant that they cannot increase Kroos’ wages for fear of disrupting their current wage structures.
And the refusal to commit past the last year of his contract has put Mourinho on alert that he could add more attacking flair to his ranks and would welcome the chance to sign the midfielder next year.
Kroos will be free to talk to clubs come the end of 2014 as he enters the final six months of the contract, and Chelsea will be one of the few clubs that can offer the wages he is currently demanding of Bayern.
