Petr Cech could spend more than two months on the sidelines after the Chelsea goalkeeper underwent surgery on his shoulder injury, ESPN
Cech suffered the injury playing for the Blues against Atletico Madrid in the first-leg of the Champions League semi-final. The 31-year-old dislocated his shoulder in the match at Vicente Calderon and had to be replaced by Mark Schwarzer, who has deputised since.
It is expected that Cech will not be able to return to training until the beginning of July, a month before the Premier League returns, and could perhaps face competition for his place from Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois has been on loan at Atletico for three years and impressed in the European meeting between the sides, making a number of saves at Stamford Bridge and drawing praise from manager Jose Mourinho.
Cech has been at Chelsea since 2004, signed by Mourinho’s predecessor Claudio Ranieri, who had been sacked by the time Cech completed his switch from Rennes. He has played 479 games in his near-decade at the club.
