Everton are considering the possibility of making a £10m bid for Chelsea’s Demba Ba, with the Senegalese striker seen as the replacement for Romelu Lukaku, according to the Daily
Lukaku has spent almost the whole of this season on loan at Everton from Chelsea, scoring an impressive 15 goals at Goodison Park. However, he is expected to return to West London in the summer, or indeed move elsewhere, leaving Everton searching for suitable replacement.
Disappointed by his lack of first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Ba seems a realistic target for Everton, but they will face competition for his signature from the likes of Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United. Former club Newcastle United have also been linked with a bid.
Despite scoring important goals in recent weeks in games against Paris St. Germain, Swansea City and Liverpool, Ba is still seen as surplus to requirements by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who is intent on bringing at least one new striker to the club over the summer.
An offer of £10m is likely to be enough for Everton, who made an enquiry concerning Ba last summer before they settled on Lukaku, but the 28-year-old’s wage demands could prove to be a stumbling block.
