Four Chelsea players named in Brazil World Cup squad

Brazil have named four Chelsea players in their provisional World Cup squad for the competition this summer, BBC Sport reports.

The current Brazil boss and former Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has named David Luiz, Oscar, Ramires and Willian in his 23-man squad alongside Manchester City’s Fernandinho and Tottenham’s Paulinho.

Several big names missed the cut including Kaka, Ronaldinho and Robinho as well as other Premier League Brazilians such as Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva and Philippe Coutinho.

The Chelsea quartet, which is the most selected from a single team, was expected to make the provisional squad however the Red’s duo will miss out despite strong performances in Liverpool’s Premier League title bid this season.

The World Cup hosts have until 2 June to decide on their final 23-man squad for the competition and will then face Panama in a friendly the following day.

The full 23-man provisional squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar (Toronto FC, on loan from QPR), Jefferson (Botafogo), Victor (Atletico Mineiro).

Defenders: Marcelo (Real Madrid), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Maicon (AS Roma), Maxwell and Thiago Silva (both Paris St-Germain), David Luiz (Chelsea), Dante (Bayern Munich), Henrique (Napoli).

Midfielders: Paulinho (Tottenham Hotspur), Ramires (Chelsea), Willian (Chelsea), Oscar (Chelsea), Hernanes (Inter Milan), Luiz Gustavo (Wolfsburg), Fernandinho (Manchester City).

Forwards: Bernard (Shakhtar Donetsk), Neymar (Barcelona), Fred (Fluminense), Jo (Atletico Mineiro), Hulk (Zenit St Petersburg).
