Liverpool have made a bid to sign Southampton playmaker Adam Lallana and make him their first summer signing, according to BBC
Lallana, linked with Manchester United for much of the season, has emerged as a target for the Reds in recent weeks, with their manager Brendan Rodgers looking to add depth to squad over the summer ahead of Champions League football next season.
England boss Roy Hodgson is expected to name Lallana as part of his 23-man squad for the World Cup on Monday, at the end of a season in which the 26-year-old has enhanced his reputation considerably, helping Southampton to their record points tally in the Premier League and their joint-highest finish.
Admired by many for his composure and technical ability, Lallana ended the season with Southampton with 10 goals in 42 appearances, and Liverpool see him as the perfect addition to a midfield that already comprises the creative talents of Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho.
In his programme notes ahead of Sunday’s final day encounter with Man Utd, Lallana admitted he had aspirations of playing in the Champions League, while Saints chairman Ralph Krueger admitted that he was expecting offers for the club’s top players.
