Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has dismissed speculation linking him with a summer move to Spain and either Real Madrid or Barcelona, BBC
In recent days, there have been rumours that Suarez could move to the Bernabeu with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema expected to leave. This is despite him signing a new four and-a-half year contract with Liverpool in December.
Responding to speculation that the contract included a clause which would allow him to move to one of Spain’s top clubs, Suarez insisted that his focus was on the World Cup, where he will represent Uruguay. He said: “There is no clause that suggests a priority for a specific team. My head now is focused on the World Cup. My agent tells me what’s there. It’s more speculation than reality.”
Last summer, Suarez publically told of his desire to join Real Madrid, but changed his mind after discussions with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. He responded with a terrific individual season, scoring 31 goals in 32 Premier League games and winning both Player of the Year awards.
However, he could not prevent Manchester City from winning the title ahead of Liverpool, and Suarez has spoken about how he felt at the end of the 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace, which was a crucial game in the final reckoning. He added: “I was so angry on the inside. A week before we had real hopes of winning the league and after the Palace game, we knew that it had gone.
“We had lost the chance. I felt frustration and rage at the fact that the opportunity had been lost. I covered my face because I was so hurt and frustrated. I preferred people not to see me.”
